GATE 2027 in Ahmedabad: Exam Cities, IIT Bombay Zone and Institutes

The official exam-city page lists seven Gujarat cities under the IIT Bombay zone: Ahmedabad, Anand, Bhavnagar, Gandhinagar, Rajkot, Surat - Bardoli and Vadodara. Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar are separate entries, so each one uses up one of your six slots.

That matters if you live in one city and study or work in the other. Gandhinagar is the state capital and the headquarters of its own district, which the district administration says has four talukas: Gandhinagar, Kalol, Dehgam and Mansa. Ahmedabad is a different district. The Ahmedabad district site describes Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport as serving both cities.

Listing both twin cities early gives GATE two nearby options before it has to look further. The list is tentative, though. GATE may add or drop a city, and can allot one outside your six if it must. GATE 2027 is held only in India.

Every choice has to come from one zone. For an Ahmedabad student that zone is IIT Bombay, which covers Gujarat, all 22 Maharashtra exam cities and Goa. Nothing in Gujarat sits in another zone, so the whole state is open to you.

One order that suits most people in Ahmedabad:

1. Ahmedabad
2. Gandhinagar
3. Anand
4. Vadodara
5. Rajkot or Bhavnagar, whichever has family or friends you could stay with
6. Surat - Bardoli

If your home is in north Gujarat, note that Mehsana is not on the list; Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad are the entries for that side. Saurashtra students will find Rajkot and Bhavnagar but no Jamnagar, Junagadh or Bhuj entry. Nadiad is not listed either, though Anand is.

Moving to Mumbai or Pune for a job before February? Mumbai - Thane, Navi Mumbai - Rasayani and Pune are in the same zone, so they can sit on the same form as Ahmedabad. The Mumbai page and Pune page explain those entries.

Gujarat borders Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, and their exam cities are in different zones. None of them can be mixed with Ahmedabad:

The common mistake is a student from Udaipur or Indore, studying in Ahmedabad, who wants home as a back-up. That form cannot work. Pick one zone: Ahmedabad plus other IIT Bombay cities, or the home city plus other IIT Delhi cities such as Jaipur or New Delhi. The Jaipur page and Bhopal page cover those sides.

Daman and Silvassa have no entry of their own. Students from there can choose any Gujarat or Maharashtra city in the IIT Bombay zone.

The important dates page shows scrutiny-defect rectification closing on 3 November 2026 and the paid data correction window still as TBA, so treat your city order as fixed until that window is announced.

The exam days are Saturday and Sunday on 6 and 7, 13 and 14, and 20 and 21 February 2027. City allotment is notified on 4 January 2027. The admit card date is TBA, and the admit card is what gives your centre address and reporting time.

A centre can be a long way from where you stay, even inside your allotted city. Find the centre on the map as soon as the admit card appears and do a dry run if you can.

If you are allotted Vadodara, Anand or Rajkot, travel the evening before. The Gandhinagar district site names Ahmedabad's main railway station at Kalupur and the main bus stops at Gitamandir, near Kalupur, and Paldi, with Gujarat state transport and private buses to the main towns.

Writing DA and CS together? The two-paper page allows the pair and says the second paper's centre may differ from the first, though it will be in the same city. Carry the printed admit card, the original photo ID you entered in the application, and whatever else the admit card lists.

IIT Gandhinagar is the closest, in Gandhinagar itself. IIT Bombay, in Powai, Mumbai, is the other institute in this zone with a GATEiit page. Both pages set out their GATE routes for DA and CSE candidates.

Across the state line, IIT Jodhpur and MNIT Jaipur in Rajasthan and IIT Indore in Madhya Pradesh are worth reading too. The full set is on /institutes.

Your exam city has no effect on admissions. A student who writes in Ahmedabad applies to every institute on the same terms as one who writes anywhere else.

GATEiit is online only. It has no Ahmedabad centre or office, and its material is free to use wherever you study.
