GATE 2027 in Delhi NCR: New Delhi Exam City, Zone Split and Institutes

New Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad and Greater NOIDA are IIT Delhi zone for GATE 2027, but NOIDA and Ghaziabad are IIT Roorkee. Pick six that fit.

Updated 3 November 2026 · GATEiit Team

One name on the list for all of Delhi

Open the official exam-city page and look for Delhi. You will find a single entry, New Delhi, under its own heading in the zone coordinated by IIT Delhi. The list offers no separate North, South, East or West Delhi option.

So wherever in Delhi you live or study, the name you tick is New Delhi. GATE then allots an actual centre, and you learn its address only from the admit card. Your centre could be anywhere GATE runs one in that city, so do not plan around your own college building.

The list is tentative. GATE says it may add or remove a city, and may allot a city outside your six choices if it has to. GATE 2027 is held only in India.

NCR is split across two zones

The National Capital Region Planning Board defines NCR as the whole of NCT Delhi plus certain districts of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. GATE does not follow that boundary. It draws its zones state by state and city by city, and the NCR cities land in two different zones:

Exam city on the GATE list State GATE zone
New Delhi Delhi IIT Delhi
Gurugram Haryana IIT Delhi
Faridabad Haryana IIT Delhi
Greater NOIDA Uttar Pradesh IIT Delhi
NOIDA Uttar Pradesh IIT Roorkee
Ghaziabad Uttar Pradesh IIT Roorkee
Meerut Uttar Pradesh IIT Roorkee
Muzaffarnagar Uttar Pradesh IIT Roorkee

All six of your choices must come from one zone. A list such as New Delhi, Ghaziabad, NOIDA is invalid, even though those places sit side by side on any map of NCR.

Haryana is split as well. Gurugram and Faridabad are IIT Delhi zone, while Ambala is IIT Roorkee zone. Several NCR districts have no exam city at all: Sonepat, Panipat, Rohtak, Karnal, Palwal, Rewari and the other Haryana NCR districts, Bulandshahr, Hapur, Baghpat and Shamli in Uttar Pradesh, and Alwar and Bharatpur in Rajasthan. If you live in one of those, decide on the zone first and then pick its cities.

NOIDA and Greater NOIDA are not interchangeable

Yes, NOIDA is on the list. It is easy to miss, because it is filed under Uttar Pradesh in the IIT Roorkee zone, while Greater NOIDA is filed under Uttar Pradesh in the IIT Delhi zone.

Both are in the same district, Gautam Buddha Nagar, according to the district administration. That does not matter to GATE. The two names behave like cities in different states as far as the six-choice rule goes.

For someone living in Noida this means a real choice between two forms:

  1. Greater NOIDA first, with New Delhi, Gurugram and Faridabad after it (IIT Delhi zone).
  2. NOIDA first, with Ghaziabad, Meerut and Muzaffarnagar after it (IIT Roorkee zone).

Pick one. Mixing NOIDA with Greater NOIDA is the most common way to get the zone rule wrong in this region.

Choosing your six from where you will be in February

Think about where you will sleep on the nights before your paper, not about your permanent address. A final-year student in a Delhi hostel and a graduate working in Gurugram may want very different lists.

IIT Delhi zone: New Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Greater NOIDA, then two from Mathura, Jaipur, Ajmer, Sikar, Kota or the other Rajasthan cities. Indore, Ujjain, Jammu - Samba, Srinagar and Leh are in this zone too.

IIT Roorkee zone: NOIDA, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, then two from Roorkee, Dehradun, Mohali-Chandigarh or Ambala.

If you will be in Delhi, Gurugram or Faridabad, the IIT Delhi list is the natural fit. If you will be on the Ghaziabad or Noida side and would rather not have New Delhi in the mix, the IIT Roorkee list gives you four NCR-district cities.

GATE registration has closed, so if you have already registered, your six are on the form. The official dates page lists the application data correction window (on candidate request, with a fee) as TBA. Until it opens, treat the current order as final. The Jaipur page covers the Rajasthan end of the IIT Delhi zone.

Who to write to: the IIT Delhi GATE office

Exam-city questions for New Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad and Greater NOIDA go to the zone office:

If your form is in the IIT Roorkee zone, write to IIT Roorkee instead: gate@iitr.ac.in, 01332-284531.

IIT Madras is the organising institute for GATE 2027, and application questions go to its helpdesk at helpdesk@gate.iitm.ac.in or 044-22578200. Use the email ID you registered with and quote your enrolment ID.

The exam weekends from Delhi NCR

GATE 2027 runs over three weekends: 6 and 7 February, 13 and 14 February, and 20 and 21 February 2027. The city allotment notification is due on 4 January 2027. The admit card date is TBA, and the admit card is what names your centre and reporting time.

When it arrives, find the centre on a map and work out the route from where you will stay the night before. In a region this large, a centre in the same city name can still be a long way from home. If you are allotted a back-up such as Mathura, Meerut or a Rajasthan city, travel the day before.

Writing two papers? The official two-paper page says the second paper's centre may be different, though in the same city. Check both addresses.

Carry the printed admit card and the original photo ID you entered in the application, plus anything else the admit card asks for. Its instructions decide what you may take into the hall.

IIT Delhi and other institutes worth a look

The institute in the city is IIT Delhi, at Hauz Khas. Its GATEiit page explains the GATE routes into its programmes for DA and CSE candidates.

Beyond Delhi, these institutes also have pages:

The full set is on /institutes.

Your exam city has no bearing on admission. Writing GATE in New Delhi does not help with IIT Delhi, and choosing the Roorkee zone does not help with IIT Roorkee. Choose the city for the exam morning and the institutes for their programmes.

Preparing from Delhi NCR with GATEiit

GATEiit is online only. It has no centre or office in Delhi NCR or anywhere else, and the material is free to use from a hostel, a PG or home.

Start with the paper. GATE DA covers Data Science and Artificial Intelligence and GATE CSE covers Computer Science and Information Technology; both pages carry the syllabus. DA and CS are an allowed two-paper pair in GATE 2027, so you can attempt both.

Then work through previous papers on /pyq and topic-wise sets on /practice. The GATE DA 2027 preparation guide and the GATE CSE 2027 preparation guide set out a plan, and the other guides fill gaps. To talk through doubts with other aspirants, join the WhatsApp group linked from the DA or CSE paper page.

All six exam days are Saturdays and Sundays, so keep weekend mornings for full-length mocks. The GATE 2027 page and the exam-city overview have the national picture.
