GATE 2027 in Tiruchirappalli: Exam City, Zone Choices and Institutes

Look for "Tiruchirappalli" under Tamilnadu on the official exam-city page. It is a single entry. Chennai is split into Chennai North and Chennai South, but Trichy has no such split, so you choose the city and GATE picks the centre inside it. The admit card gives the address.

The zone is IIT Madras, which is also the organising institute for GATE 2027. All 24 Tamil Nadu exam cities sit in this one zone, along with Puducherry, most of southern Kerala, nine Andhra Pradesh cities, seven Telangana cities and Lakshadweep. For anyone whose life is entirely inside Tamil Nadu, the same-zone rule costs nothing.

Two cautions from the same official page. The list is tentative, and GATE may add or drop a city or allot one outside your six if it has to. GATE 2027 is also held only in India, so a student working abroad has to come back to write it.

You can build the whole list without leaving Tamil Nadu. One workable order:

3. Karaikudi
4. Dindigul
5. Namakkal
6. Madurai

Salem, Erode, Cuddalore, Puducherry and Ramanathapuram are other same-zone options if one of those suits you better. Put a city higher if you have a relative there or can share a friend's room the night before. A back-up you cannot actually reach on a February morning is a wasted line on the form.

If you will be in Chennai for an internship or job in February, start the list with Chennai North or Chennai South and keep Trichy lower down. Both are the same zone, so mixing them is allowed. Our Chennai page covers the city in more detail, and Madurai and Coimbatore have their own pages too.

If you study in Trichy but your home is in another state, this is where the zone rule bites. Your six cities must all be from one zone, so the question to settle first is where you will actually sleep on the exam weekends: the hostel or home.

Kerala is worth a second look. Palakkad and Thrissur are IISc zone, while Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam and Aluva - Ernakulam are IIT Madras zone. Someone from Palakkad who keeps Trichy as a fallback has to drop one of the two.

If home is in a different zone, choose that zone completely and leave Trichy off, or choose Trichy's zone completely and stay back for the exam. The Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Vijayawada pages explain the other side.

Mail from the address you registered with and put your enrolment ID in the subject line, so the helpdesk can find your application. The official dates page shows the data correction window as TBA. If you want to change your city order, that window is the chance, so keep an eye on it.

The official dates page gives this sequence, and says all dates may change:

• 4 January 2027: city allotment notification, telling you which of your six cities you got
• Admit card: date still TBA; this is where the exact centre and reporting time appear
• 6 and 7, 13 and 14, 20 and 21 February 2027: the exam, always a Saturday and Sunday
• 19 March 2027: results

When the admit card arrives, find the centre the same evening. A centre can be on the outskirts, so knowing Trichy well does not mean you know where it is. If you were allotted a back-up such as Thanjavur or Dindigul, travel the day before a forenoon session.

Carry the printed admit card and the original photo ID you gave in the application, and anything else the admit card lists. Its rules on what may go inside the hall are the ones that count.

Your exam city plays no part in admission. Writing GATE in Trichy gives no edge at NIT Trichy, and writing it in Chennai does nothing for IIT Madras.

GATEiit has no centre in Trichy or anywhere else. It is an online site, and the material is free, which suits a hostel timetable.

Pick your paper first. GATE DA is Data Science and Artificial Intelligence; GATE CSE is Computer Science and Information Technology. Each page sets out the syllabus and links a WhatsApp group for that paper. DA and CS form an allowed two-paper combination in 2027, if you want both.

After that, past papers on /pyq, topic sets on /practice, and a plan from the GATE DA 2027 guide or the GATE CSE 2027 guide. The other guides fill in the gaps.
