GATE 2027 in Mangaluru: IISc Zone, North Kerala Options and Institutes

Mangaluru is IISc zone for GATE 2027, with Manipal - Udupi, Kasaragod and Kannur, but not Goa or Ernakulam. Plan six cities and nearby institutes.

Mangaluru and Manipal - Udupi on the list

On the official exam-city list, Karnataka's coast has two entries, both under the IISc zone: "Mangaluru" and "Manipal - Udupi". They are separate choices, so a student living between them can use both.

Neither lets you name a locality. If you write "Mangaluru", GATE picks the centre within that city, and the admit card tells you where it is. Do not assume it will be close to your college.

The list is tentative. GATE says it may add or remove a city, or allot one that is not among your six. The exam is held only in India.

Crossing into Kerala does not change your zone

If you study in Mangaluru but your home is in Kasaragod or Kannur, the zone map works in your favour. Kerala’s exam cities are split between two zones, and Kasaragod and Kannur are on our side:

Zone Kerala exam cities
IISc (same as Mangaluru) Angamaly, Kannur, Kasaragod, Kozhikode, Palakkad, Pathanamthitta, Thrissur, Wayanad
IIT Madras Alappuzha, Aluva - Ernakulam, Attingal, Chengannur, Idukki, Kanjirapally, Kollam, Kothamangalam, Kottayam, Muvattupuzha, Thiruvananthapuram

So Mangaluru, Kasaragod, Kannur and Kozhikode can all sit on one form. What you cannot do is reach further south and add Aluva - Ernakulam, Kottayam or Thiruvananthapuram. The Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram pages deal with that side.

Three ways to fill six slots

Which list suits you depends on where you will be sleeping on the exam weekends. Some examples, all IISc zone:

Staying at a hostel or PG in Mangaluru or Surathkal. Mangaluru, Manipal - Udupi, Kasaragod, Kannur, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru.

Going home to north Kerala. Kasaragod, Kannur, Mangaluru, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Manipal - Udupi.

Going home inland in Karnataka. Mangaluru first if you will still be on the coast, otherwise lead with home: Shivamogga, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, Davanagere, Mysuru, with Mangaluru or Manipal - Udupi to round it off.

Mysuru, Mandya, Bengaluru North and Bengaluru South are also allowed if you have family or a job there. Keep the order honest: a back-up only helps if you can get to it the day before.

Where the IISc zone stops

Going north up the coast, Goa is in the IIT Bombay zone, as are Kolhapur, Ratnagiri and Sangli. Going south, Thrissur and Angamaly are still IISc, but Aluva - Ernakulam is IIT Madras. Going east into Tamil Nadu, Coimbatore and Ooty are IIT Madras zone.

None of these can be mixed with Mangaluru. If you are working in Goa or Kochi and will write from there, choose that zone's list in full instead, and read the Coimbatore or Kochi page if that is where you will be.

Writing to the IISc zone office

Exam-city questions from Mangaluru go to IISc, not to IIT Madras, even though IIT Madras organises GATE 2027. The contact exactly as listed:

IISc, Bengaluru-560 012: helpdesk.gate@iisc.ac.in, phones 080-22932644, 080-22932392 and 080-22933333.

Use your registered email address and include your enrolment ID. Questions about the application portal or the paper go to the organiser, helpdesk@gate.iitm.ac.in (044-22578200). Registration closed on 16 October 2026 with the special window; the data correction window is TBA on the official dates page, so check what it allows before counting on a change of city.

The exam weekends

Papers run on 6 and 7 February, 13 and 14 February, and 20 and 21 February 2027. The city allotment notification is due on 4 January 2027, and the admit card date is TBA. Results are due on 19 March 2027.

Once the admit card names your centre, look it up that day and plan the route from wherever you will spend the previous night. If you have been allotted Kannur, Hassan or Chikkamagaluru rather than Mangaluru, go the day before. Carry the printed admit card and the original photo ID you entered in the form, plus anything else the admit card asks for, and follow its rules on what is allowed in the hall.

Institutes nearby, and preparing from here

The one on our doorstep is NITK Surathkal, on NH 66 at Srinivasnagar, Surathkal. Along the coast in Kerala is NIT Calicut at Kozhikode, and inland are IIT Palakkad, IIT Dharwad, IIIT Dharwad, IISc Bengaluru and IIIT Bangalore. Each page explains that institute's GATE routes for DA and CSE candidates; the rest are on /institutes. Your exam city plays no part in admission, so writing in Mangaluru gives no edge at NITK.

GATEiit is a free website with no centre or office in Mangaluru or anywhere else. Decide on GATE DA or GATE CSE first. The DA and CS pair is an allowed two-paper combination for 2027. Past papers are on /pyq and topic sets on /practice. For a plan, read the GATE DA 2027 guide or the GATE CSE 2027 guide, and browse /guides. The WhatsApp group is linked on each paper page.

Since every paper is on a weekend, take your mocks on Saturday and Sunday mornings. The Bengaluru page and the Mysuru page cover the rest of the IISc zone, and GATE 2027 and the exam-city overview cover the national details.
