GATE 2027 in Pune: Exam City, IIT Bombay Zone and Back-up Choices

The official exam-city page lists "Pune" once, under Maharashtra, in the zone coordinated by IIT Bombay. The list has no Pune North or Pune South and no separate Pimpri-Chinchwad entry. You select Pune, and GATE picks the centre.

Pune district is wider than the city. The district administration lists sixteen talukas, among them Pune City, Pimpri Chinchwad, Haveli, Maval, Mulshi, Khed, Shirur, Daund, Indapur and Baramati. Only Baramati has its own exam-city name. That gives a student from the eastern side of the district a choice: Pune if you will be in a city hostel or flat, Baramati if you will be at home.

The list is tentative. GATE may add or remove a city, and may allot one outside your six options if it has to. GATE 2027 is held only in India.

All six choices have to come from one zone. For Pune that is easy, because the IIT Bombay zone holds every Maharashtra exam city, plus Goa and seven Gujarat cities.

The nearest same-zone names to Pune on the list are Baramati, Satara, Ahilyanagar (Ahmednagar) and the two Mumbai clusters, Navi Mumbai - Rasayani and Mumbai - Thane. Solapur - Pandharpur, Sangli, Kolhapur and Nashik are the next ring out.

A sensible order for someone studying in Pune:

1. Pune
2. Navi Mumbai - Rasayani or Baramati, depending on whether you have someone to stay with in Navi Mumbai or at home in the district
3. Satara
4. Ahilyanagar (Ahmednagar)
5. Mumbai - Thane
6. Solapur - Pandharpur, Kolhapur or Nashik

If your home is across the state border, check its zone before you fill the form. Several such cities are on the list but in other zones, and none of them can go on a form that has Pune on it:

Maharashtra itself has no such trap. Solapur - Pandharpur, Latur, Nanded, Kolhapur and Nagpur are all IIT Bombay zone, so a student from elsewhere in Maharashtra studying in Pune can freely mix the home city with Pune.

If your family is in Belagavi or Hubballi and you plan to write from home, the whole form switches to the IISc zone, and Pune drops off it. The Bengaluru page covers that zone. Fix where you will physically be in February before you fill the form.

Pune's zone office is at IIT Bombay, not IIT Madras, even though IIT Madras organises GATE 2027. The official contact:

Write from your registered email ID and include your enrolment ID. For the application portal and fee questions, IIT Madras runs the helpdesk at helpdesk@gate.iitm.ac.in and 044-22578200.

The important dates page puts the close of scrutiny-defect rectification at 3 November 2026 and still shows the data correction window as TBA. Until that window opens, assume your city order cannot change.

Papers are on 6 and 7 February, 13 and 14 February, and 20 and 21 February 2027, all Saturdays and Sundays. The city allotment notification is due on 4 January 2027; the admit card date is TBA, and the admit card names your centre and reporting time.

According to the Pune district administration, the city has metro, auto rickshaws, municipal and private buses, rental cars and bicycles, and PMPML city buses run mainly from Swargate, Deccan Gymkhana, Pune Station, Shivaji Nagar Station and Pune Corporation. Centres can be on the edges of the city, though, so check how you will reach yours on a weekend morning before the day.

• Locate the centre the day the admit card appears and plan the route from where you will spend the night before.
• If GATE allots you Satara, Baramati or another back-up, go the evening before.
• Writing DA and CS together? The two-paper page says the second paper's centre may be different, though in the same city.

Take the printed admit card and the original photo ID entered in your application, and anything else the admit card asks for.

Where you write the exam has nothing to do with where you get in. Choose the city for an easy morning and the institutes for the programme.

Pick your paper first: GATE DA for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, GATE CSE for Computer Science and Information Technology. Both pages give the syllabus. Some students write DA and CS together, which GATE 2027 allows.
