NIT Patna Admission Through GATE: M.Tech via CCMT and PhD in CSE

NIT Patna's address is Ashok Rajpath, Patna 800 005. That is not where a computing M.Tech student studies, though. The Dean (Academic)'s notice of 24 July 2026, posted on the M.Tech admissions page, said students admitted to ECE, CSE and EE M.Tech programmes through CCMT 2026 would attend classes at the Bihta Campus, while ME, CE and Architecture & Planning students would stay at Ashok Rajpath.

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering describes its postgraduate offer as a two-year M.Tech with two specialisations:

• Data Science and Engineering
• Cyber Security

It also runs a three-year MCA (specialisations in AI and IoT, and in Data Science and Informatics) and a PhD. The MCA comes through NIMCET, not GATE, so it is outside the scope of this page. The B.Tech and dual-degree programmes are undergraduate routes through JoSAA.

CCMT's 2026 seat mapping shows a short and simple list for NIT Patna's Department of Computer Science & Engineering.

Two things follow from this. A GATE DA score is as good as a GATE CS score for eligibility here, and both papers compete in the same group. The degree list is "any discipline", so a mechanical or civil graduate with a DA or CS score could apply, while an M.Sc. or MCA holder does not appear in the 2026 mapping for these two programmes.

None of NIT Patna's other M.Tech programmes (in ECE, EE, ME, CE or Architecture & Planning) mapped DA or CS in 2026. CCMT revises the mapping every year, so check the 2027 table before you lock choices.

CCMT's Maximum and Minimum GATE Score report for 2026 lists, for each round, the highest and lowest GATE score among candidates allotted a seat. These are GATE scores out of 1000, exactly as printed. CCMT does not split them by paper, so DA and CS allottees are counted together. Round 1 rows are printed with group "G1" and the later rounds with "Group 1".

CCMT also ran Rounds 2 and 3 and Special Rounds 1 and 2 in between. The OPEN minimum for Data Science & Engineering fell from 557 in Round 1 to 499 in the National Spot Round, and for Cyber Security from 532 to 466. Use these as a record of who was allotted in 2026, not as a promise for 2027.

The CCMT 2026 schedule set out three phases.

After each round you pay the seat acceptance fee, upload documents and choose freeze, float or slide. Physical reporting at the final institute begins after the National Spot Round. NIT Patna's notice said M.Tech classes for CCMT 2026 admits would begin on 12 August 2026, and that biometric attendance from that date is needed to receive the assistantship.

The fee notification linked from the M.Tech admissions page (Registrar's notification of 17 May 2024, for students admitted in 2024-25 and onwards) sets tuition at ₹35,000 a semester. SC and ST students are exempt from tuition but pay the other charges.

Part B includes a one-time ₹30,000 development fee, ₹10,000 refundable caution money and ₹4,000 admission processing fee in the first semester. Hostel fees are extra: ₹18,000 a semester for a single room or ₹12,000 for multi-occupancy, plus a ₹20,000 mess advance. The notice states that hostel rooms are given to M.Tech students only if available, which matters if you are moving from the south. The institute's fee structure page lists this as the PG fee structure for 2024-25 onwards.

PhD admission at NIT Patna is the institute's own process, listed on its PhD admissions page. The advertisement for the July-December 2026 semester (dated 3 June 2026) is the most useful official document for a DA or CS aspirant.

• Papers: Annexure I names GATE Computer Science and Information Technology (CS) and Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DA) for the CSE department. Full-time candidates must qualify GATE or NET in the discipline they apply to.
• Eligibility: an M.Tech/M.E. with 6.5 CGPA or 60%, or a B.Tech/B.E. (or MCA, for CSE only) with first class or 60%/6.5 CGPA plus a valid GATE or NET score, with 0.5 CGPA or 5% relaxation for SC, ST and PwD candidates.
• Selection: a 100-mark screening test on the GATE/NET syllabus (40% to qualify, 35% for SC/ST/PwD), then a 100-mark interview. The merit list uses the interview alone, with at least 50% needed.
• Seats: CSE had 16 of the 113 seats in the semester's seat matrix.

The 2026 cycle closed applications on 20 July, held the test on 27 July and interviews on 28 and 29 July, all in person at the institute. The application fee was ₹1,500 (₹750 for SC, ST and PwD), and the first-semester fee at admission was ₹59,750 excluding hostel and mess. A separate call under the Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme (Phase II) in October 2026 offered one full-time and one part-time seat across ECE, CSE and EE.

The PhD advertisement lists the academic section's phone numbers (0612) 237-1929 and 237-0843 (Ext. 172) and the email acad.help@nitp.ac.in. M.Tech seat allotment queries belong with CCMT, since the institute only takes over after allotment.

For a 2027 applicant:

1. Choose between DA and CS on your strengths, since both counted for NIT Patna's computing M.Tech in 2026. Our guides on how to prepare for GATE DA 2027 and how to prepare for GATE CSE 2027 set out a plan for each.

3. Register on CCMT when it opens (mid-May in 2026) and list both Data Science & Engineering and Cyber Security if either interests you.
4. Keep an eye on the institute's admission notices after allotment for reporting dates and the campus you will join.
