MNNIT Allahabad Admission Through GATE: M.Tech AI & Data Science, CSE and PhD

The institute keeps the name Allahabad, but its own documents give the address as Prayagraj 211004, Uttar Pradesh. If you are travelling from the south for reporting, plan on Prayagraj itself. The official GATE 2027 exam city list includes Prayagraj under the IIT Kanpur zone (tentative), so you can also write the exam in the same city.

The Computer Science and Engineering Department page lists three current M.Tech specialisations:

• Computer Science & Engineering (Specialization in AI and Data Science), with its own curriculum. CCMT calls it "Computer Science & Engineering in (Artificial Intelligence & Data Science)".
• Computer Science & Engineering.
• Information Security.

An M.Tech in Software Engineering appears only in the department's old curriculum list. One more CCMT programme matters to a DA or CS taker: the M.Tech in Cyber Physical System, run by the Department of Electrical Engineering.

MNNIT's admission page lists the regular M.Tech as "Admission through GATE Examination", with the CCMT portal as the place to apply. The CCMT 2026 brochure required a valid GATE score of 2024, 2025 or 2026 and at least 6.5 CGPA or 60% in the qualifying degree, or 6.0 CGPA or 55% for SC, ST and PwD candidates. Seats were offered over three regular rounds, two Special Rounds and a National Spot Round, and merit is the GATE score alone.

Every DA- or CS-relevant MNNIT programme in CCMT 2026 had one seat group, G1. The admission page also lists M.Tech routes for part-time and sponsored candidates (a written examination and interview at MNNIT) and for foreign nationals through DASA and ICCR. I found no MNNIT page for 2026 describing a self-financed M.Tech or an institute spot round, so do not plan on either.

CCMT's seat mapping of programme against GATE paper and qualifying degree is the deciding document. For MNNIT in 2026 it read like this:

For a GATE DA taker this narrows the list to AI & Data Science and Cyber Physical System. A DA score does not count for the plain CSE M.Tech here, even with a CSE degree. A GATE CSE taker can list all four.

The degree side is broad. For AI & Data Science with GATE DA, the mapping includes B.E./B.Tech. degrees in computing, electrical, electronics and instrumentation branches, a B.Tech in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, an MCA and several M.Sc. degrees (Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Electronics). Mechanical and civil degrees do not appear in the DA mapping for these programmes, so check your exact degree name before paying the CCMT fee.

The report does not split candidates by GATE paper, so the AI & Data Science rows mix DA and CS scorers. For Computer Science & Engineering, the National Spot Round printed no ST row.

PhD admission at MNNIT runs on the institute's own portal, separate from CCMT. In November 2026 the institute's home page carried a notice titled "Information regarding PhD Admission process for Odd Semester AY 2026–27". That notice sits on the academics portal, which I could not open, so its dates and test format are not given here.

The rules below come from the Doctoral Programmes document that the admission and department pages link to. It was uploaded in 2024, so confirm each point against the current notice.

• Five categories exist: Institute Stipendiary Full-time (code 11), Sponsored Full-time (12), Sponsored Part-time (13), MNNIT Faculty/Staff/Project Fellow Part-time (14) and Self-financed Full-time (15).
• All five require a pass in GATE, NET or a listed national test such as CSIR or DST. Code 11 needs GATE or NET in a relevant discipline and has a maximum age of 30.
• For a PhD in engineering you need a Master's in engineering or technology with 60% or CPI 6.5. A B.E./B.Tech. holder, or someone with an MCA or M.Sc., needs 75% or CPI 8.0.

Unlike the M.Tech side, a GATE DA score is not tied to a programme here. The document asks for GATE in a relevant discipline and leaves the call to the department.

Decide your paper first. If MNNIT's plain CSE M.Tech is your target, you need GATE CS. GATE DA keeps AI & Data Science and Cyber Physical System open but not the CSE programme. Writing both papers is one way to keep every option, if the GATE 2027 paper combinations allow it.

CCMT registration happens on the CCMT portal, not on MNNIT's site, and the seat mapping is republished for each cycle, so check the 2027 version before you lock choices.
