NIT Andhra Pradesh at Tadepalligudem and its CSE department

NIT Andhra Pradesh sits near National Highway 16 at Kadakatla, Tadepalligudem, in West Godavari district (PIN 534101). Its own 2026 PhD notice describes it as an Institute of National Importance, established in 2015 and funded by the Ministry of Education.

For a GATE DA or CS aspirant, the relevant unit is the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. The department page lists a B.Tech in CSE, one M.Tech, MS (by Research) and PhD. That single M.Tech is Computer Science and Data Analytics, which the department says has run with an intake of 15 students from 2020-21. The department runs no separate M.Tech in CSE, AI or Data Science, so every CS-side M.Tech applicant to NIT Andhra Pradesh is competing for the same small batch.

The department lists research work in machine learning, deep learning, data analytics, probabilistic graphical models, randomised and approximation algorithms, cryptography, NLP and computer vision, with a Data Analytics Lab. That tilt towards data work is why the M.Tech carries "Data Analytics" in its name.

Which GATE paper CCMT accepts for Computer Science and Data Analytics

This is the point a DA aspirant needs to check first. CCMT's 2026 mapping of programmes to GATE papers and qualifying degrees lists NIT Andhra Pradesh's Computer Science and Data Analytics (programme code DF, Department of Computer Science & Engineering) under Group 1, and every one of its 119 qualifying-degree rows maps to a single GATE paper: CS (Computer Science and Information Technology). GATE DA does not appear against this programme.

The degree side is broad. The mapping includes B.E./B.Tech degrees in CSE and IT, CSE (Data Science), AI and Data Science, AI and Machine Learning, and also electrical, electronics, instrumentation and communication branches. Every row is a B.E./B.Tech degree; the 2026 mapping lists no M.Sc or MCA route into this programme.

Your situation What the 2026 CCMT mapping allows
GATE DA only No CCMT route into this M.Tech
GATE CS, with a mapped B.E./B.Tech Eligible to choose Computer Science and Data Analytics
GATE CS, M.Sc or MCA Not listed in the mapping

If you are writing GATE DA and want NIT Andhra Pradesh, the M.Tech is closed to that score on the 2026 record. A GATE CS score is the way in. CCMT can revise its mapping each year, so check the 2027 mapping before you plan around it.

How CCMT 2026 ran for NIT Andhra Pradesh

NIT Andhra Pradesh does not run its own M.Tech application. Its M.Tech admissions page says eligibility follows CCMT-2026 norms and points to CCMT, the centralised counselling for NIT M.Tech seats. You register, pay and fill choices on CCMT, and seats are allotted by GATE score.

The CCMT 2026 schedule posted on the institute site gives these regular-round dates:

Step 2026 date
Registration, fee payment and choice filling opens 15 May 2026
Last date for registration and fee payment 5 June 2026
Last date to lock choices 8 June 2026
Round 1 allotment 12 June 2026
Round 2 allotment 22 June 2026

The minimum academic marks, as the institute's 2026 spot-round notice restates them from CCMT-2026, are 6.5 CGPA or 60% for GEN, GEN-EWS and OBC, and 6.0 CGPA or 55% for SC, ST and PwD. GATE scores from 2024, 2025 or 2026 counted as valid in that notice.

The institute's 2025 M.Tech brochure adds that all registered M.Tech students must live on campus and that financial aid is available as per Ministry of Education norms. Queries go to admissions@nitandhra.ac.in.

CCMT 2026 scores for Computer Science and Data Analytics

CCMT published a Maximum and Minimum GATE Score report for 2026, giving the highest and lowest GATE score among candidates allotted each programme in each round. For NIT Andhra Pradesh's Computer Science and Data Analytics, Group 1, Round 1 reads:

Category Max GATE score Min GATE score
OPEN 609 519
EWS 512 512
OBC-NCL 512 484
SC 426 407
ST 310 310

These are GATE scores out of 1000, copied as printed. CCMT does not split them by GATE paper, but since the 2026 mapping above maps this programme to CS alone, these are CS scores in practice.

The same report shows later rounds going lower. In the OPEN category, Round 2 printed 518 and 500, Round 3 printed 496 and 495, and Special Round 1 printed 493 and 488. The National Spot Round printed no OPEN row for this programme; its only row was ST, at 274. Treat all of these as a record of 2026 allotments, not a promise for 2027.

The institute-level spot round in August 2026

After CCMT finished, NIT Andhra Pradesh ran its own spot round notification for leftover M.Tech seats, with physical reporting on 12 August 2026 at the Admission Section, Central Vista. GATE-qualified candidates were allotted first, in CCMT merit order. Only if seats stayed vacant did the institute consider candidates without a valid GATE score, through a departmental written test and/or interview, and those candidates get no MoE scholarship or Half-Time Teaching Assistantship.

For Computer Science and Data Analytics, this round did not matter in 2026. The institute's vacancy list dated 11 August 2026 showed 0 vacant seats in the programme, against 58 across all M.Tech programmes. The CS-side seats were filled through CCMT.

Spot-round admits paid an institute fee of ₹59,600 on the day, with hostel and mess charged separately.

MS (by Research): sponsored candidates only

NIT Andhra Pradesh's MS (by Research) page says the programme runs in all eight engineering branches, CSE included, but only in externally sponsored mode. You must be working on a regular basis in a research organisation, academic institution or industry with at least two years of experience, and hold a B.E./B.Tech with a good record. Selection is by written test and/or interview.

So a final-year student with a fresh GATE DA or CS score cannot use MS (by Research) here as a direct route. The page does not mention GATE.

PhD in CSE: where GATE or NET helps

The PhD advertisement for the December 2026 session (Adv. No. NITANP/SASS/2026-27/111, dated 1 October 2026) is the latest official word on research admission.

  • Eligibility for CSE: a Master's in Engineering, Technology or Computer Applications in a relevant discipline. Full-time Institute Assistantship applicants may also hold a B.E./B.Tech from a central-government-funded institution with CGPA above 7.5.
  • Role of GATE: applicants without a qualified GATE, NET or other national-level exam must clear a written exam at NIT Andhra Pradesh before the interview. GATE or NET qualifiers are shortlisted directly for interview.
  • Seats: 31 full-time Institute fellowship seats across the whole institute (15 UR, 6 EWS, 4 OBC-NCL, 4 SC, 2 ST), and 0 part-time seats in CSE for this session.
  • Fellowship: ₹37,000 a month in years one and two, ₹42,000 in years three to five, subject to the progress seminar.

Applications for this session closed on 28 October 2026; the written test and interviews were tentatively set for 9 to 13 November 2026, with results around 18 November. The institute runs a session like this each year, so watch its announcements if a PhD is your plan.

Planning a GATE attempt with NIT Andhra Pradesh in mind

The 2026 record points one way: for an M.Tech here, you need GATE CS and a B.E./B.Tech that CCMT maps to Computer Science and Data Analytics. With about 15 seats, Round 1 OPEN allotments in 2026 ran from 609 down to 519, and the later rounds dipped below 500.

If your preparation is for GATE DA, the M.Tech is not open to that score on the 2026 mapping. A DA score can still count at the PhD stage, since the advertisement exempts GATE qualifiers from the written exam, though you would need a Master's first in most cases.

For CS, work through the GATE CSE preparation guide, practise with previous year questions and use timed practice. If you are still choosing a paper, the GATE DA guide and GATE 2027 overview set out both. You can compare other South Indian routes on our institutes list, for example NIT Warangal or NIT Trichy, each with its own CCMT mapping.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get into NIT Andhra Pradesh's M.Tech with a GATE DA score?

Not on the 2026 record. CCMT's 2026 mapping lists only GATE CS against Computer Science and Data Analytics, the institute's one CS-side M.Tech, so a DA score had no CCMT route in. Check the 2027 mapping when CCMT publishes it.

What GATE score did Computer Science and Data Analytics close at in 2026?

CCMT's 2026 report gives Round 1 OPEN as a maximum of 609 and a minimum of 519 among allotted candidates. OBC-NCL was 512 and 484, EWS 512 and 512, SC 426 and 407, ST 310 and 310. Later rounds went lower, with Round 3 OPEN at 496 and 495.

How many seats does the M.Tech in Computer Science and Data Analytics have?

The CSE department page says the M.Tech has an intake of 15 students from 2020-21 onwards. Check CCMT's seat matrix for the category-wise split in your year.

Does NIT Andhra Pradesh have an M.Tech in CSE or in AI?

No. The CSE department offers one M.Tech, Computer Science and Data Analytics, plus MS (by Research) and PhD.

Can an ECE or EEE graduate apply with GATE CS?

Yes, on the 2026 mapping. CCMT lists electrical, electronics, communication and instrumentation B.E./B.Tech degrees among the 119 qualifying degrees for this programme, each mapped to GATE CS.

Is there a spot round if I miss CCMT?

NIT Andhra Pradesh ran an institute-level spot round on 12 August 2026, but its vacancy list showed 0 seats left in Computer Science and Data Analytics, so it offered no way in for this programme that year.

Can I join MS (by Research) right after my B.Tech?

No. The institute's MS (by Research) is only in externally sponsored mode and needs at least two years of regular work experience in research, academia or industry.

Do I need GATE for a PhD in CSE at NIT Andhra Pradesh?

It is not mandatory, but it helps. The December 2026 advertisement says candidates without a qualified GATE, NET or other national-level exam must pass the institute's written exam before the interview.
